SELLING FRUIT TREE SEEDLINGS

Trees better our world.

But what if we are to give them a sweet twist…

That’s what fruit trees do.

They not only provide us with shade, oxygen and improve on the climate but avail to us fruits.

Most of us have grown around fruit trees and have seen the benefits they bring to the table.

In many ways, they are a useful tool for anyone seeking to promote tree planting- while making money on the side.

CLIMATE CHANGE

The rising atmospheric carbon levels places on us a responsibility to take corrective measures.

And one of those measures is to plant trees.

Why?

Because trees assimilate atmospheric carbon through photosynthesis.

That way, trees help reduce the impact of climate change.

But I always wonder how we can encourage more of us in the developing world to plant trees yet we don’t see any immediate monetary benefit.

One way is through encouraging fruit tree cultivation.

Fruit tree farming is big on land usage.

But land shouldn’t be a factor for anyone desiring to impact their community positively.

One could reach out to local institutions such as schools, hospitals, churches and partner with them in this quest.

Of course this doesn’t guarantee immediate money in the pocket but it does build a reputation around a cause.

This is the realm of social entrepreneurship.

SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP

A social entrepreneur seeks to solve a communal problem while making money at the same time.

And what better environmental solution than tree planting.

All one needs is a drive to approach institutions/ companies to partner with or plug into already existing initiatives.

When people associate you with a cause (such as tree planting), you become a go-to person.

This gives you an opportunity to monetize your venture through offering consultancy services or even selling a product.

And that product could be in the form of fruit tree seedlings.

FRUIT TREE SEEDLINGS

If no land is available, tree seedling business is one sure bet of making a mark.

All one needs is some space with some sunlight.

The next step is to determine which fruit tree seedlings to propagate.

There are many options such as mangos, Oranges, avocado etc.

All this will be driven by the need of the surrounding market and the local climate.

Next, one might need to do some research on soil nutrition, agronomy and pest control.

Lastly, one may need a demonstration farm to show how these seedlings perform.

Partnering with a local school through planting seedlings on the grounds and taking photos of the growing trees for marketing could help.

Social media platforms will be useful for publicity.

IN CONCLUSION

Fruit tree seedlings business is a venture that is ripe for take off as long as one puts their mind to it.

Several businesses have succeeded in this regard.

After all, it helps tackle climate change.

Start small… but have a growth mindset.
